Education

The Cardiff area is well supplied with primary and secondary educational facilities, see the full listings here. Cardiff offers a range of education including English Medium, Welsh Medium, Church of Wales, Catholic, Special Educational Needs and private.

At all Key Stages, Cardiff’s results compare well with the Welsh average for almost all subjects at all levels. The tables opposite show the most recent data available. In addition to offering the more traditional qualifications of GCSE’s and‘A’ levels, schools and colleges in the Cardiff area also offer a wide variety of vocational qualifications as indicated in the section on ‘Skills and Training’ earlier in this Guide. The Cardiff LEA area is a premier provider of vocational education that is of vital importance to the commercial success of the area and maintaining the strong growth of recent years through further expansion and relocations to this key commercial region.

University Education

Cardiff is a university city boasting four outstanding local institutions; Cardiff University; University of Glamorgan; University of Wales Institute,Cardiff (UWIC); Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama (RWCMD). Cardiff’s Universities have nine ‘Centres of Excellence’ recognised for technology and industrial collaboration and are also stimulating a thriving local enterprise Culture particularly in knowledge intensive sectors such as ICT, creative industries and biosciences.

Adult Education

Cardiff Council offers over a thousand courses for adults of all ages and abilities in many different subject areas. With sixteen Adult Learning Centres in communities across Cardiff, you are sure to find the course you want right on your doorstep.

Learn new skills, gain qualifications, develop confidence, make friends and have fun. Courses on offer range from Languages to ICT, Digital Photography to Cookery. Specialised courses are available for people with a disability, people wanting support with their Maths and Writing skills and for speakers of other languages. Find out more here.
