Sport
There is an extensive range of leisure facilities in the Cardiff city region, including first class venues for watching and participating in various sports including rugby, football, tennis, athletics, cricket, hockey, ice hockey, baseball, rafting, canoeing and a dry ski slope. Indeed, Cardiff has a world-class rugby club (Cardiff Blues), a major football club (Cardiff City) and a major cricket club (Glamorgan County Cricket). Cardiff’s city centre is home to the Millennium Stadium, a modern day landmark with the first retractable roof in the UK, making it a multipurpose, all round venue.
Cardiff also boasts the SWALEC stadium, Glamorgan County Cricket Club’s headquarters, situated adjacent to the city centre and River Taff. The impressive new ground hosted the First Ashes test between England and Australia in July 2009.
Construction of the Cardiff International Sports Village, the £700 million landmark mixed leisure and retail scheme in Cardiff Bay, is well underway. The site is currently home to Cardiff International White Water, The International Swimming Pool with plans for an Ice arena, snow slope, hotels, bars & restaurants.
Leisure
Cardiff offers a wide variety of sports and leisure facilities operated by Cardiff Council as well as a full selection of private gymnasiums and sports clubs. Cardiff has a total of seven leisure centres which offer a full range of facilities and activities suitable for all ages and all levels of fitness. There are a number of leisure complexes in Cardiff which include cinema and bowling, casinos, restaurants and bars, including The Red Dragon Centre in Cardiff Bay and Stadium Plaza in the city centre.
Socialising
Cosy pubs, trendy bars, small live music venues and 1,000 capacity super-clubs, Cardiff's nightlife is vibrant and varied. Throughout the city, you can find a variety of places to eat, drink, listen to music and dance in.
Mill Lane, The Brewery Quarter, Greyfriars Road, St Mary Street and Churchill Way are popular city centre areas, both with a lively mix of bars, cafés and restaurants. The Greyfriars Road area offers an alternative to the bustling St Mary Street on weekends, and is home to smart cocktail and wine bars.
