Cardiff & Co seeks new chair
Cardiff & Co, the company set up to promote the capital of Wales to the rest of the world, is searching for a new Chair for its Board of Directors.
Founding Chairman Bill Savage is stepping down after more than four years at the helm, during which time the company has established effective partnerships with the public sector, and lasting and productive relationships with the private sector across the city-region.
Cardiff & Co was established in 2007 by Cardiff Council to lead the promotion of the Cardiff city-region as the ideal destination in which to live, work, invest, meet, study, visit, shop and play. It was built on core investment from the Council, supplemented by income from the private sector and other sources and now has an annual turnover of around £1m.
Cardiff Council has just announced its renewed support for the company, with Leader Cllr Rodney Berman praising the ‘increasingly influential role’ that Cardiff & Co has played in promoting the city region.
Apart from the Council, the company has a number of major investors, including Cardiff University, Cardiff Airport, St. David’s Partnership and UWIC. The company also has a growing number of Corporate Champions as well as a Tourism Network of 180 members from the breadth of the city-region.
Odgers Berndtson have been appointed to lead the search for a Chair. Managing Partner Jemma Terry said the chairmanship of Cardiff & Co would attract high calibre candidates. She said: “Cardiff & Co already has a high reputation. The board and its executive have set the company on a sound financial footing over the last four years, opening up a great opportunity to make Cardiff a prime target for investment. We are looking forward to our role in finding a new chair to lead what is already a skilled, experienced and motivated Board of Directors and Executive Team.”
The new Chair will be charged with delivering the company’s five-year business plan which will see Cardiff & Co continue to grow through an innovative and creative approach to destination marketing, particularly through the mobilisation of its networks and the exploitation of the London market-place as a gateway to the rest of the world.
When he announced that he was standing down to take up a full-time post as Director of Commercial Services with the Wales Probation Trust, Bill Savage said the time was right for a new chair to steer the board of directors and the company into the next phase of its activities.
He said: “The future is very exciting for the Cardiff city region and for Cardiff & Co. There is a big job to be done and it will be a rewarding opportunity for the right candidate.”
