Pob hwyl a diolch as Lord Wogan of Splott bids a fond farewell
Sir Terry Wogan, self-proclaimed Lord of Splott is to step down from his early morning show, ‘Wake up to Wogan’ after joining BBC Radio 2, thirty seven years ago.
In recognition of his Ambassadorial role for Cardiff, Noreen Bray of Good Relations and board member of Cardiff & Co presented Sir Terry with a certificate from his adoring fans from Splott outlining some of the privileges that accompany his new title – Lord of Splott. He was also presented with a Lord Wogan of Splott t-shirt, a rugby ball signed by the Cardiff Blues, the new Cardiff Monopoly and some Brains S.A.
Over the past three years, Limerick-born Wogan has co hosted the show with Lynn Bowles, a native of Splott. Listeners to the morning show have become accustomed to their regular banter, with Wogan, proudly claiming to be the Lord of Splott. The popular presenter will hang up his headphones for the last time on Friday, 18 December.
Noreen Bray, whose business Good Relations has had an office in the city for 20 years and who is a Cardiff & Co Board member said “I grew up in Splott where my parents ran Splott Rd Post Office. I loved living there and know that local people have a great sense of humour. Terry Wogan and his colleagues from Splott, Lynn Bowles and Roger Royle, have always spoken fondly of Splott over the years on his breakfast programme so Cardiff & Co thought he deserved a thank you. Let’s hope he continues to mention Cardiff in positive terms on his new Sunday programme”
