Specialist Models

A successful Cardiff firm best known for creating giant models has teamed up with Cardiff & Co to promote the city.  The company, Specialist Models anticipate that the partnership will also help to further increase their profile both in the UK and further afield.

Specialist Models, with an annual turnover of £500,000 recently came to the public’s attention after being commissioned by John Lewis to produce giant household goods, which were dotted around the city-centre prior to the shop’s opening in October.  The company are no newcomers to the model-making industry, having been established over 20 years ago.  The firm may, until recently,  have been Cardiff’s best kept secret but their reputation as a first class model-making company has attracted some big name clients from around the world – companies such as Honda, Harrods, Buena Vista, BBC, Biomet and Endemol: Big Brother 10.   Specialist Models also created the world’s largest trainer (UK size 454) for Tesco in aid of Cancer Research UK’s Race for life 2009.

Commenting on their partnership with the company charged with promoting Cardiff, Simon Hooper, Managing Director at Specialist Models said, “Cardiff & Co caught our attention following some creative marketing and publicity to raise the city’s profile.  We saw an obvious synergy between our two organisations.  By providing eye-catching models to help promote campaigns and events in the city, we would, as a consequence, be placing our products and services clearly in the ‘shop window’”.

Cardiff & Co’s Managing Director, Richard Thomas said, “We are delighted to welcome Wales’ leading specialist model company on board as Corporate Champions. We are in a very competitive market and are continually looking for creative angles to capture the public’s imagination to promote the city’s offer and to stand out from other competitor cities.  Specialist Models are an established and successful local business and will help us to achieve these aspirations.”
