Back to news list The date of the 2010 meeting was announced live on Sky Sports on Monday evening by Paul Bellamy, Chief Executive of Speedway Grand Prix. As well as announcing the date of the event, Mr. Bellamy also announced that the Cardiff Commitment was being applied to the event so that Speedway fans would benefit from reasonably priced accommodation during their stay. The Cardiff Commitment is a tripartite pledge entered into by Cardiff & Co, the Millennium Stadium plc and the Cardiff Hoteliers’ Association. It packages what Cardiff has to offer to major event and conference organisers. The on-line accommodation booking site and Cardiff & Co’s phone lines have been red hot following Monday’s announcement and hundreds of accommodation bookings have been made, bringing tens of thousands of pounds of revenue into the city. More than 42,000 fans watched last Saturday’s 2009 Grand Prix and the 2010 event – the 10th Speedway Grand Prix in the Millennium Stadium – promises to be an even bigger and better affair. And what’s more, with the 2010 Football World Cup Final taking place the day after the Speedway, many fans are extending their stay so that they can take in the big match atmosphere.
